People always ask me, “What’s your favorite?” Favorite country; city, beach, thing you’ve seen, airline, food, trip, etc. and then of course, “Why?”

The answer in general is, its tough to say. I have different favorites for different reasons. I realize I am a little jaded especially compared to most people but I try to keep everything in perspective. I always realize when something is amazing or beyond me and I need to sit back and enjoy something. This is a tough question to ask someone and I cannot give just one answer for each favorite and in fact even if I could there would be some aspect that I wouldn’t include versus another place.

For the fun of it, I will try to give top 5 lists for a few questions. You have to understand how hard this is because there are always going to be 2 or 3 which I feel guilty leaving off the list and there is no specific criteria. Here we go:

Favorite Country: Australia. New Zealand, Brazil, Thailand, Tanzania

Favorite Non-Country Country (ie deemed a country by the TCC): Easter Island (Chile), Fernando de Noronha (Brazil), Bermuda, Zanzibar, Aruba

Favorite City: Barcelona, London, Sydney, Paris, Rio de Janeiro

Favorite Beach: Anakena Beach (Easter Island, Chile), Sancho Beach (Fernando de Noronha, Brazil), Horseshoe Beach (Bermuda, UK), Hat Rin Nok (Ko Phangan, Thailand), West Bay Beach (Roatan Island, Honduras)

Favorite Site: Pyramids (Cairo, Egypt), Petra (Petra, Jordan), Moai (Easter Island, Chile), Taj Mahal (Agra, India), Angkor Wat (Siem Reap, Cambodia)

Favorite Airline: Singapore, Qantas, Virgin Atlantic, Thai, Cathay Pacific

Favorite Hostel: The Palace (Brisbane, Australia), Ashanti (Capetown, South Africa), Balmers (Interlaken, Switzerland), Underground Backpackers (Perth, Australia), Hotel Bakpak (Melbourne, Australia)

Favorite Hotel: Shangri La (Bangkok, Thailand), Peninsula (Manila, Philippines), Hyatt (Aruba), Sheraton (Jaipur, India), Taj (Colombo, Sri Lanka)

Favorite Event I’ve been to: San Fermin Festival-Running of the Bulls (Pamplona, Spain), Oktoberfest (Munich, Germany), Carnival (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Full Moon Party (Ko Phangan, Thailand), Superbowl (USA)

Favorite Food: Italy, Brazil, Argentina, France, Mexico

Favorite Beer: Guinness (Ireland), Quilmes (Argentina), Solera (Venezuela), San Miguel (Philippines), Kingfisher (India)

Favorite Adventure: Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), World’s Highest Bungy Jump (Garden Route, South Africa), Inca Trail (Machu Picchu, Peru), White Water Rafting (Zambezi, River between Zambia and Zimbabwe), Hang Gliding (Rio de Janeiro)

Favorite Drive: Capetown to the Cape of Good Hope (South Africa), Great Ocean Road (Australia), Pacific Coast Highway (California, USA), Kings Highway (Jordan), Cappadoccia (Turkey)

Favorite Natural Site: Ngorongoro Crater (Tanzania), Amazon (Brazil), Great Barrier Reef (Australia), Grand Canyon (Arizona, USA), Iguassu Falls (Argentina and Brazil Border)

Favorite Natural Scenery: Austria, New Zealand, Switzerland, Chile, Brazil

Favorite Random Country I’ve Visited: Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique, Liechtenstein, Kaliningrad

I’m sure there’s many other favorites that I can’t think of right now and other categories but this is a good start. I am sure everyone else has their favorites, let the debating begin.
