Everybody knows the Taj Mahal and everbody has seen the same pictures of it. It looks amazing in pictures but seeing the same pictures all of your life cannot possibly do it justice. When you see the Taj in person, it is breathtaking. It will stifle you in your tracks and make you just stare at it. It is the worlds most beautiful building, hands down and a sure fire new 7 wonder of the world.
The Taj Mahal has all of the qualities I look for in a new 7 wonder of the world. It is awesome and beautiful. It’s location is far from anywhere and tough to reach. It is jaw dropping when you see it in person and it has a lot of history and mystery behind it.
The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum located in Agra, India. The Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned it as a mausoleum for his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. He did this out of love. In 1631 Shah Jahan, emperor during the Mughal’s period of greatest prosperity, was griefstricken when his second wife, Mumtaz Mahal, died during the birth of their daughter Gauhara Begum, their fourteenth child. Contemporary court chronicles concerning Shah Jahan’s grief form the basis of the love story traditionally held as the inspiration for the Taj Mahal. Construction of the Taj Mahal was begun soon after Mumtaz’s death. Construction began in 1632 and was completed in approximately 1648 and the surrounding buildings and garden were finished five years later.
I sat in the garden around the Taj for 6 hours, yes 6 hours just staring and taking the Taj in. You can actually go inside the Taj and see the tomb. It really isn’t that exciting going inside, kind of the equivalent of going inside the Pyramids, its small and theres not much to see. But like the Pyramids, the outside of the Taj is amazing. The intricacies of the carvings on the sides of the Taj are very delicate and beautifully done. In addition, there are 2 mosques on either side of the Taj that are perfectly symetrical to the Taj that add to the mystique of the Taj Mahal.
In India, the Taj Mahal is as good as it gets. It’s not just another site, it is one of the sites on Earth. To see it at dawn is unexplainable as to how amazing it is. It is a bastion of peace in hectic India and will not disappoint even the most jaded traveler. The Taj is what the new 7 wonders should be.

I also visited the Taj about a month ago. I can’t say I thought it was worth my time though. It’s a very touristy thing to do. Actually, a friend of mine from New Delhi laughed when we told him we were going- he has never even been. Let me know when you hit all 315, because I think I might beat you.
Will do Justin, but I have to disagree with you. It is touristy obviously, as everything is today but sometimes you have to accept that and look beyond the tour busses and throngs of people to see what is awesome about the place you’re seeing. the taj definitely deserves to b one among 7 wonders, infact the first one too coz it teaches one about architecture,symmetry,the gardens speak of environment friendly schemes and greenary datin back to mughal era. if the english cud plunder india for its wealth since mughal times..they might as well make THE TAJ a 7th new wonder…..!!!!

Petra is the epitome of what a wonder of the world is and should be. It is mysterious and awesome. It strikes your nerves and awakens your curiosty. It is the coolest buildup of any wonder on the list. You have to walk for nearly a half hour to get to see the main structures and there is no peeking like at most wonders. You can’t see it until you do and then you can’t take your eyes off of it. Petra is truly amazing and along with the Pyramids, my favorite of the new wonder finalists
Those who haven’t seen the Taj Mahal will just have to take our word for it. It cannot be captured in photos. It is stunningly beautiful, a real emotional experience.

Taj mahal, Build by muslim people, and yet now it’t Ruled by Hindu and all of them, have nothing to do with it, i think it brought good name only to the muslim people.

Just went to the Taj yesterday, it was magnificent. And you are right, there is not much to see inside.
i like taj mahal but i have not even found its size and area. mumtaz mahal was very beautiful woman and shah jahan was a very handsome man. taj mahal was built in the memory of his wife.its so nice and beautiful building many people from other places came to visit it thats why it is added to the seven wonders of the world
