I have wanted to visit Barbados again for a while. I was there back in 2008 for just a day on the only cruise I’ve ever taken and I know there is so much more to see. World-class beaches, hotels, rum distilleries, cricket and botanical gardens-Barbados offers a lot to the visitor.
I am planning to visit Barbados on holiday again very soon. It has really been too long. My best memories of Barbados were certainly of Crane Beach and Sandy Lane Beach.
The sand at these beaches was exquisite and Crane Beach especially is like a dream. Of course it’s different when you get off a cruise ship, as you have to rush around to try to see many things in a short time.
A good tip for visiting Barbados if you only have a day from the cruise ship is to take busses. They are cheap and very extensive around the island. Taxis are also plentiful, especially at the port but they can be expensive.
The other thing I definitely did a lot of in Barbados and really the Caribbean in general was drink rum. Mount Gay Rum is from Barbados and will always hold a special place in my heart; going back to college. Much like Bacardi in Puerto Rico, a lot of pride of the island is put behind their national spirit.
I also remember thinking Bridgetown was a pretty decent town, especially as Caribbean capitals go. It was very safe and pleasant to walk around. Sometimes in the Caribbean, you can’t even go to capital cities because they’re not safe and often full of slums.
To most people, Barbados has such a connotation of a tropical paradise because it has such a cool name. Others probably relate it Rihanna because she is from Barbados. But for me I always think of those great white sand beaches and rum.
I am really looking forward to going back to Barbados again soon!

Hi Lee,
I hope you do make it back to Barbados soon. Since your last visit Bridgetown and it’s nearby Garrison have been named a “UNESCO World Heritage Site”. In addition to the beaches and rum, I highly recommend a zipline and tour on Atlantis Submarines on your next visit.
Continue to enjoy your travels 🙂
Stopped over once, I loved it, remind me of my home Montego Bay, Jamaica, beautiful beach.
My husband and I just got back from a cruise and one of the ports of call on our cruise was Barbados! We absolutely loved it! I shared some pictures from our day in Barbados on my blog.
My wife and I visit that beautiful island every year. We spend about 2 months, each time. It is the only place we never tire of or get homesick.
