The Washington DC Travel and Adventure Show was the first of the travel and adventure shows that I have ever attended. They are a series of shows throughout the country each year. I had never really been interested in conferences much but plan to speak at and attend several this year. The Washington DC Travel and Adventure Show was a great experience for me, I really enjoyed it and look forward to speaking at others soon.
I had been in contact about speaking at a few of the Travel and Adventure Shows for some time now but it never worked out with my schedule. However, the Washington DC Travel and Adventure Show fit in perfectly. I took the train down from New York on Friday, hung out with some friends and attended the show Saturday before speaking on Sunday.
The show itself is pretty cool. It is full of exhibitors looking to sell trips and travel related products to consumers who attend the show. The Washington DC Travel and Adventure Show had some cool things like a rock climbing wall and a swimming pool for learning to dive.
The Washington DC Travel and Adventure Show also had a few stages for chefs and also for animals. There was truly a plethora of activities going on.
However, the main draw is the speakers. The travel shows almost always have the same speakers or travel celebrities like Rick Steeves, Andrew McCarthy and my new favorites, Pauline Frommer and Samantha Brown. Both were super nice and gave a great talk.
So with names like that I was honored and excited to be speaking alongside them.
It worked out perfectly that I was the last to speak at the Washington DC Travel and Adventure Show because then I had no set time limit and was able to stick around and answer questions, take pictures and sign autographs for a while after the talk was done.
The audience was excellent and asked a lot of great questions. I really enjoyed it and the questions ranged from basic questions to questions about obscure places like Pitcairn Island. So that was a lot of fun. It was a very knowledgeable and well-traveled audience.
I also really enjoyed the freedom of the structure to basically talk about traveling to every country in the world and then having an open Q&A. I am not a huge fan of structure and it made it flow nicely.
I want to thank the Washington DC Travel and Adventure Show for having me to speak and I hope to do it again soon. I had a great time and thanks to all who came and participated in my talk; you all made it fun for me!
