Maui has that certain something. It is one of those places that just the mere mention of the name, makes you dream of far away exotic lands and beaches. That’s the best thing about Maui, it is just that, but closer and more accessible than lower Pacific islands. Maui is also the place where the rich and famous go in Hawaii. That’s because of the amazing luxury offerings in Maui and the service and catering that the wealthy can get. These people, the 1%, go to Wailea when they are on Maui.
Wailea is just what you want it to be. It is the South Beach or Beverly Hills of Maui. It has the best hotels on Maui and some of the top hotels in the world. Wailea also boasts challenging and breathtaking golf courses, fabulous restaurants and the ultimate in hotel spas. It is the ultimate luxury holiday and one I won’t soon forget!
I stayed at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. It is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The attention to detail at the Four Seasons is legendary around the world but on Maui, it is taken to a new level. The resort is spectacular in all ways. It has a fabulous spa where the amazing masseuse put me to sleep.
The pool is something out of Caesars Palace in Las Vegas that you can’t take your eyes off and the restaurants are world class including a Spago. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my amazing suite. There’s not much I need to say, just watch the video!
Outside of hotel row, there is plenty to keep you occupied, whatever your tastes. I’m not much for shopping but I do love playing golf. I played the Wailea Gold Course. The Gold Course boasts some of the best views I have ever seen on a golf course and I have played some of the most picturesque in the world. Granted I am a little bias because I love the ocean but look at these views-truly spectacular. Famously, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer loved playing this course! That aside, I actually played pretty well so I was quite pleased.
The thing about Wailea is if you don’t want to indulge in high priced luxury activities like these you can just chill on a great beach or do some water activities like stand up paddle boarding or outrigger canoes. I’ll be honest I am not a big fan of stand up paddle boarding but I surprisingly really enjoyed the outrigger canoes.
Outrigger Canoes are a way of life in Hawaii and it is a very competitive sport. They actually have high school teams and big competitions. Obviously that wasn’t my intention but for guests of Wailea hotels, you can take a relaxing and informative row out on the Pacific and get some great views back of Wailea and other surrounding islands. You’ll also see a ton of sea turtles!
Just writing this and looking at these pictures makes me miss Wailea already. It’s not a cheap destination, so don’t be getting any ideas of backpacking Wailea or anything but it is as good as it gets if luxury is your thing. And really who doesn’t love luxury, luxury hotels and being treated like a king!
Disclaimer: I was hosted by the Maui Visitors Bureau on this trip to Maui and was also comped my room at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. However, all views expressed here are my own and have not been influenced in any way.
Hi lee, another amazing story that makes me jealous. I am an avid golfer and that hole looks incredible, what a way to tee off!
Hi Daphne, yes it was a great course, amazing views and I actually like ocean courses over desert courses if they’re not too windy an that’s why Wailea Gold was perfect because there was no real wind.
We stayed at the Wailea Grand a few years ago, we liked it but the damn rooms were so far away from the lobby/desk, it drove me nuts.
That’s funny because that’s exactly what some other writers from my trip said! You get that at massive resorts though…they can’t build high so they build wide
I love Maui and especially Wailea, haven’t stayed at Four Seasons but did get a great massage and my boyfriend played golf-probably the same course.
Yes you don’t need to stay at the Four Seasons to enjoy Wailea but it doesn’t hurt-trust me! The massage I got there was to die for.
Staying at The Four Seasons Maui is on my Bucket List!
Make it happen Sandi! You will love it!
I hate you, that suite is my dream!
Sorry Natasha!
Hey lee, great story. I did the outrigger canoes last year in Maui, good times, just chill and easy. Safe travels in CR.
Thanks Joey and yes they are really chill, great word for them…
Video is amazing-love your commentary!
