Movie Review of ‘I am Legend’

I am Legend was simply the worst movie I have ever paid to see in my entire life. The plot was awful, the acting was mediocre at best, it was completely unrealistic and the movie quite simply-should’ve never been made. It was a colossal waste of time and money and I really would like that hour and forty minutes of my life back.

I am generally not a fan of Will Smith’s movies or him as an actor and I also don’t normally like science fiction movies either. That said, I went into this with an open mind and I was even a little excited because I saw this movie being filmed in Manhattan twice last year. I couldn’t have possibly been more disappointed in a movie.

The basic plot is Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable and manmade. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City, and maybe the world. But he is not alone. He is surrounded by ”the Infected” victims of the plague who have mutated into carnivorous beings who can only exist in the dark and who will devour or infect anyone or anything in their path. For years, Neville has spent his days scavenging for food and sending out radio messages to find any other survivors. All the while, the Infected lurk in the shadows, watching Neville’s every move, waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind’s last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood.

Now that sounds exciting, doesn’t it? No of course not, it’s a stupid plot and even worse when you see how it plays out. I don’t want to ruin it for anyone who may actually want to see it but the best part of the movie is Smith’s dog and when he dies, it really goes downhill from there. The infected carnivorous zombies that only come out in the dark and have no traits of human beings are the most ridiculous part of the movie and are almost laughable.

The whole movie, I sat there waiting for something meaningful to happen and thought maybe something would happen at the end to tie things together or something to that extent, but the ending was even worse than the body of the film. Nothing really happened and after Smith’s character’s “suicidal heroism” it ended with one of those cheesy Hollywood endings with a quote trying to make it seem like his life was epic and in fact he was a legend. Trust me, there was nothing legendary about this film.

I have been reading some of the reviews online and I can’t fathom how anyone can like this movie. I realize it just came out Friday and in Europe it won’t be out for months yet but if you have seen it and liked it please email me and explain to me what you liked about it.

  2. I agree with you that this movie was just awful.

  3. I love Will Smith but this movie was really not good. I didn’t understand what was happening most of the time and nothing really tied it together as you said in the end. It was very sad when the dog died and those zombie people were just stupid.
