Arsenal Atop The Table

Arsenal FC completed their 10th straight victory in all competitions to cement their place atop the English Premier League standings by beating Sunderland today in EPL action. Their 7-0-1 record, having a game in hand over the rest of the league is good for 22 points and the top position over Manchester United and Manchester City in the EPL table. They are also leading in Group H of the Champions League after winning their first two convincingly over Sevilla and Steaua Bucuresti and look to be cruising into the knockout stages with only four matches to play in the group stage.

With the preseason departure of the all time Arsenal scoring leader and former European player of the year Thierry Henry, the season looked bleak for the young Gunners. However, given the opportunity to shine, young stars like Dutch International Robin Van Persie, Theo Walcott, Togo International Emmanuel Adebayor and Spaniard Francesc Fabregas have delivered time and time again and have made them a factor in English and European competitions.

They are a pleasure to watch and very exciting. After years of success with Henry at the helm, it is refreshing to see the young guys stepping it up and delivering in the clutch as Van Persie did today. Arsenal will have one more easy EPL game against Bolton coming up before their clashes with European giants Liverpool and Manchester United in back to back weeks. After those matches the Gunners will really be able to see how good they are.

Mix in a few Champions League clashes with Slavia Prague and a Carling Cup tie with Sheffield United coming up and it’s clear that Arsenal will have a long way to go if they want to keep their spots atop all competitions but I look forward to seeing them try and at the very least it’s fun to watch them play. It’s a breath of fresh air and adds some much needed excitement to the early EPL season.

  1. Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal…Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal

  2. Man U Supporter says

Arsenal will have to fight off United all season, they don’t have the staying power to hold off Ronaldo and Rooney all year long.

  3. Arsenal beat Man U twice last year in EPL games. If Man U can’t score more goals they won’t last.

  4. The season is young…30 games to go

  5. Arsenal has not played many difficult matches yet. They will be tested soon with ManU.

  6. Sing about the Gunners,
we’re the lads in Red and White,
we can play the football game,
and we can play it right.
While there’s still a minute left,
we’ll not give up the fight,
when we go marching on Wembley.
    March on, march on!
    The boys from Highbury.
    March on, march on!
    March on to victory.
The Gunners colours on the Cup,
    is what we’re gonna see,
when we go marching on Wembley!
