I was away this weekend in Bethany Beach, Delaware (USA) for the long holiday weekend and I got to thinking. First, I know I have done a bit of sports lately but sports and travel are my two biggest passions so I want to combine a bit. This is the best time of year for sports in my opinion, especially on a global scale. This past week Chelsea wrapped up the FA Cup in England and AC Milan the Champions League in Europe. La Liga in Spain is coming down to the wire with Real Madrid and Barcelona battling it out for the title, Aussie Rules Football is in high gear and the Rugby World Cup is right around the corner. The French Open starts a blast of tennis grand slams and the US Open starts the golf majors coming at us over the summer.

Here in the US, baseball (my favorite) is in full swing, the NBA playoffs are nearing conclusion (like the Spurs won’t win) and the NHL Stanley Cup Finals are going on right now-did anyone see Governor Schwarzenegger drop the puck tonight-give me a break-he doesn’t even know who is playing.

This summer promises to be very interesting with tons of great story lines. Can Federer win the grand slam? Can Nadal win his third straight French? Can Tiger claim a few more majors? Will Barca win their third straight Spanish title? When will Barry Bonds break the HR record? Will the Yankees make a comeback? Will Ottawa be the first Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup in 14 years? Can England repeat as Rugby World Champs?

All of these stories will unfold right before our eyes and before the first scrum happens in France we will start a new premiership season and the whole thing starts all over again. Should be fun.
